CONVERSION - HOUSE OF YEAR 2014 - HONOURABLE MENTION
The reconstruction of the premises of the University of Ostrava was aimed at creating an adequate academic building and establishing a complex educational and research base of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ostrava. The design of the interior is based on the overall concept of the whole project. The basic requirements were simplicity and clarity when it comes to keeping a certain level of pleasantness that has to do with the purpose of the building. The object can be divided based on its function as classrooms and lecture rooms, offices, communication spaces (hallways, stairs, elevators) and service areas (cloak rooms, facilities, kitchenettes, day rooms). An auditorium of a large capacity is designed in a tiered fashion. The entrances to the classrooms are highlighted by red tiling. Niches made out of former doors are used as a seating areas. The seating area in the hallways is complemented with seats and tables. In some spots there are protruding a glassed boxes out of the facade that are equipped with tables and chairs for studying on its own or relaxation. Outer space is equipped with park benches and seat that helps the area to be used more as a place of communication and relaxation. At the main entrance, there can be found a space of reception with relaxation zone that is connected to the zones on other floors by the means of an aperture concluded by a glass barrier. Except for the color differences, the spaces is improved by pillars in a black color and great window spaces. The relaxation zone is equipped with tables and chairs and functions as a study and relaxation space.
